Depardieu 'headbutted' photographer

Veteran French actor Gerard Depardieu stands accused of headbutting a paparazzo after he was photographed with a mystery woman.

The Cyrano De Bergerac star was shopping in Florence, Italy, when Dario Orlandi is said to have leaped out and snapped a picture.

Orlandi, who needed hospital treatment to patch up his bleeding face after Depardieu's alleged assault, says: "It was completely over the top. He headbutted me in the face."

The aggrieved photographer plans to file an official complaint against the 56-year-old to the police.

Yesterday, Depardieu admitted he was engaged to an unnamed 30-year-old woman, but it is unclear if his fiancee was his companion in Florence.
