Director Ritchie – better known as Mr Madonna – is one of the new breed of Brit moviemakers obsessed with gangsters, low-lifes, charmless hustlers.
His films could never, in anybody’s wildest dreams, be called successful. With this one he is, at least, consistent.
In spite of starring the excellent American actor, Liotta, this dismal effort has been panned by Stateside critics.
The unoriginal plot involves a gambler (Statham) who does the foolish thing of beating and insulting a gang boss (Liotta). It is not a good career move because the gang boss sets out to avenge the insult.
It’s all dismally forgettable, from the knackered dialogue, to the cardboard characters, to the daft plotline, to the tired direction.
