Two Irish authors have been shortlisted for the Booker Prize.

John Banville has been nominated for his book The Sea, while Julian Barnes has been named for his novel Arthur And George.

The Booker Prize literature award was initiated in 1969 and is administered by the National Book League in the United Kingdom.

The winner will be announced in October.
