Celebrity golf team bonded in the bar

The European team today taking part in a celebrity golf tournament prepared for the final day of the competition with another late night in the bar.

Disc Jockey Chris Evans confessed on Saturday that his team had stayed up drinking into the early hours ahead of their first day on green while their American rivals took the opportunity for an early night.

And today coach, Colin Montgomerie said that the European team had been working on their own brand of team building again until 4am this morning.

He said: “Our seats are all named now. We’ve got a good team unity.”

The late night team building did not seem to affect Europe’s early performance as they drew ahead with 57 points to the American’s 55 as the first two pairings reached the sixth hole.

Catherine Zeta-Jones cut a dash on the fairway in a navy skirt with white piping but she struggled to make the same impact on the scoreboard.

The Welsh beauty looked exasperated when she fluffed her very first shots as she and team mate, Evans teed off.

He threw a comforting arm around her shoulders and they talked tactics for a moment before she shook herself and gave it another go.

But when things had still not improved by the fourth hole Zeta-Jones was looking a little weary.

She told Sky Sports, “I had a bad back yesterday and now it’s better I can’t hit the ball.”

The tournament, which is the brainchild of television presenters Ant and Dec, pits European and American celebrities against each other in a Ryder Cup-style format.

It takes place on the Roman Road course of the Celtic Manor Resort in Newport, south Wales which is set to host the Ryder Cup in 2012.

Each star’s share of the proceeds from the events will be donated to their own nominated charity.

Today the celebrities were playing in foursomes, two players from each team. Ian Wright and Jodie Kidd were the first to tee off against Michael Chang and Sixth Sense star Hayley Osment.

They were followed by Zeta-Jones and Evans with former Dallas star Patrick Duffy and Cheech Marin.

Steve Redgrave and new substitution Rudd Gullit were the next to start against saxophonist Kenny G and Steve Hytner.

Next up was Peter Schmeichel and James Nesbit playing against Boomer Esiason and Cheryl Ladd.

The final group to tee off was Ronan Keating, Damian Lewis, Michael Douglas and Mark Spitz.
