An American crime writer has promised to pay for a charity worker’s cancer treatment after reading about her plight, it emerged today.

Patricia Cornwell contacted Debbie Munro, 45, after she heard the family were forced to sell their home near Great Yarmouth to fund treatment for her advanced colon cancer.

Mrs Munro was diagnosed 18 months ago and was told by the NHS that she did not fit the criteria for treatment and that there was nothing more that could be done.

But the family sold their house and went to America to start using the so-called wonder drug Avastin, which cuts off blood supply to the cancer and stops it growing.
