Oliver hits out at skinny celebrity mothers

Jamie Oliver’s wife Jools has hit out at celebrity mothers who lose their baby weight within weeks of giving birth.

The likes of Victoria Beckham, Liz Hurley and Donna Air all regained their skinny figures in super-quick time.

But Jools – mother to Poppy Honey, three, and Daisy Boo, two – said women shouldn’t be ashamed of their weight after having a baby.

“Since having the girls, I have to tuck my tummy into my jeans. But it just reminds me of them, so it’s fine,” she tells this month’s Red magazine.

“I’ve always been skinny and didn’t notice putting on weight during my pregnancies until I saw the pictures in the press and thought: ‘Look at the size of my face.’

“But I found it funny. It’s natural to put on weight when you’re pregnant, for goodness sake.”

And while other celebrity mothers hit the treadmill after their baby is born, Jools, 29, has no interest in a punishing exercise regime.

“I didn’t do any exercise after having Poppy, but after Daisy I hired a personal trainer,” she admitted.

“I only lasted six sessions. It was about having time to myself, but I’d ring up with excuses that I’d had a bad night with the girls, which wasn’t true. I’ve joined a gym with a friend, but we end up chatting in Starbucks instead.”

Earlier this month pop star Jamelia slammed skinny celebrity mothers.

The singer, who is expecting her second child, branded them “dangerous and irresponsible”.

And a recent survey found that four out of five mothers felt celebrities who quickly regained their pre-pregnancy figures were bad role models.
