Thoughtful film is well worth catching

Mysterious Skin

Director: Gregg Araki

Cast: Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Brady Corbet, Bill Sage, Elisabeth Shue

Cert: 18

While this gritty film, from Scott Heim's novel, is about the gay world, it isn't, strictly speaking, a gay film. What it is, is a movingly lyrical story in which an excellent cast, particularly Gordon-Levitt as a flawed rent boy, gives its all in a tough tale of child abuse.

There are, to be sure, scenes of male nudity but director Araki handles them, and the entire film, with understanding, compassion and sympathy and brings us a thoughtful film well worth catching.

Star Rating: 4/5
