Equalizer star has home burgled
In his role as TV’s vigilante enforcer The Equalizer, he was an avenging angel famous for bringing criminals to book.
But tough guy actor Edward Woodward, now 74, has fallen victim to burglars who raided his home and stole €85,000-worth of antiques.
Mr Woodward returned from a holiday at Christmas to find that precious possessions including his wife’s jewellery, bronze statues and his collection of antique walking sticks had been looted from his home in Surrey in England.
The actor retrieved some of the goods – including valuable decanters of scotch and brandy – last weekend at an “antiques roadshow” featuring stolen property recovered in raids by the Metropolitan Police. But most of the items are still missing.
Mr Woodward, who starred in The Equalizer from 1985 to 1989, appeared to empathise with some of the victims he helped in the show and said he felt very angry at being burgled.
“I wish I had been there. I wanted to beat the living daylights out of them,” he said.
The star, who is married to actress Michele Dotrice, thanked police from the Met’s Art and Antiques Unit for getting some of his property back.
