Depardieu conquers drink habit

French screen icon Gerard Depardieu has drastically cut down his excessive drinking after a heart attack gave him a shocking wake-up call.

The Crano De Bergerac star, 56, would often drink four to five bottles of red wine every day, until he went to hospital for a routine check up, and was kept in for an emergency quintuple bypass operation.

Depardieu says: "I have learnt a lot about my body since my heart attack. I diet more. And I don't drink as much now as before.

"I don't snack all the time, but I do sometimes drink l more than I should... I get very tired when acting and lose my equilibrium, then there is a danger that I eat for my energy and drink for my energy."
