SPI calls for more support from Irish broadcasters

Screen Producers Ireland has called on Irish television broadcasters for increased support in 2005, accusing them of acting like Scrooge with Irish films.

The independent producers' body made their remarks after claiming only two of the 180 films due to be shown on RTÉ 1, RTÉ 2, TV3 and TG4, from Christmas Eve to New Year's Day, are home grown productions.

SPI called on RTÉ to commit 3% of the license fee it receives to feature film production from 2005 onwards, in order to reverse this trend.

Screen Producers Ireland is the representative body for over 200 independent film and television production companies in Ireland, working in the areas of feature film, television, animation and new media.
