Love pleads not guilty to assault

Courtney Love pleaded not guilty today to assault with a deadly weapon stemming from a confrontation with a woman at her ex-boyfriend’s house.

The singer, 40, entered her plea before Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Terry Green.

She is scheduled to return to court for a December 15 pre-trial hearing, said Jane Robison, a spokeswoman for the district attorney’s office. A trial is not expected until next year.

The charge relates to an incident on April 25 at the home of Love’s former boyfriend. Love allegedly found a 32-year-old woman sleeping on a sofa and threw a bottle at her and chased her with a torch.

The assault case is one of several legal problems involving Love, the sometime singer, sometime actress and the widow of Nirvana singer Kurt Cobain.

She pleaded guilty last month in New York City to disorderly conduct for striking a clubber on the head with a microphone during a concert.

She also admitted earlier this year a drug charge and agreed to enter a rehabilitation programme.

And the singer faces two drug charges in Beverly Hills Superior Court for alleged illegal possession of painkillers.
