The shortlist for the celebrity shopper of the year award was announced today.
Ten celebrities, including David and Victoria Beckham, Elton John and footballer Wayne Rooney’s fiancée Coleen McLoughlin, have been nominated for the title by retailers.
The award is the first of its kind organised by the British Retail Consortium and the winner will be announced at its glittering annual dinner at the Grosvenor Hotel in central London on Monday night.
Coleen, 18, has already been nicknamed the “Queen of Chav Style” in retail circles and is likely to be a strong contender.
She has been seen sporting various expensive designer dresses since wunderkind Rooney signed for Manchester United in a £27m (€39.1m) deal earlier this year.
In August, the aspiring actress was stopped by Customs at Manchester Airport after flying back from a £10,000 (€14,500) shopping trip to New York with thousands of pounds in designer goods.
McLoughlin faces stiff competition in the form of Victoria Beckham.
Being one half of such a high-profile couple seems to have only increased Posh Spice’s passion for Gucci and Prada as she continues to live up to her nickname.
Husband David has a similar penchant for designer clothes and has been separately nominated for the award.
What Not to Wear presenters Trinny Woodhall and Susannah Constantine have been nominated together and Alfie actor Jude Law, celebrity chef Jamie Oliver and Abi Titmuss are also in the running.
David Southwell, for the British Retail Consortium, said: “Some of the celebrities in our list have been nominated for the huge impact on what our customers buy and others because of their passion for shopping.
“Whilst the likes of Jamie Oliver have had a massive impact on the food bought and Trinny and Susannah have shaped what the county wears, other nominees have earnt their nomination through their passion for spending.
“David and Victoria Beckham have feet in both camps being both big spenders and fashion icons.”
Britain’s current best-dressed man Chris Martin and wife Gwyneth Paltrow both just failed to make the top ten.
The nominees are: Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen, Coleen McLoughlin, Elton John, Victoria Beckham, Jamie Oliver, Trinny & Susannah, Abi Titmuss, David Beckham, Jude Law, Richard E Grant.
