Diaz set for day in court
Cameron Diaz is set to appear in court in Los Angeles to confront the man she claims is trying to blackmail her over topless photographs he shot of her before she became famous.
The Charlie’s Angel star, who is currently Hollywood’s highest-paid actress, claims photographer John Rutter threatened to sell the 1992 photos to European magazines unless Diaz paid him for them.
Diaz promptly accused Rutter of extortion and, although the more serious charge has now been dropped, she still plans to have her day in court, saying the photographer forged her signature on a release form.
The trial is set to begin next month and Rutter’s lawyer, Mark Werksman, told America’s Celebrity Justice show that the star would almost certainly testify in front of the jury. He said: “I think she’ll be a witness for the prosecution, so you can expect that she will be testifying.
“But Rutter did nothing wrong here. In fact, he did Ms Diaz a favour by giving her an opportunity to purchase these photographs before he sold them on the open market.”
