Screen producers warm welcome to reshuffle
Screen Producers Ireland has given a positive welcome to the cabinet reshuffle announced by the Taoiseach today.
Screen Producers Ireland has given a positive welcome to the appointment of Noel Dempsey to the Communications, Marine and Natural Resources portfolio and the retention of John O'Donoghue, in the role of Minister for Arts, Sport and Tourism.
He also welcomed the decision to keep Eamon Ó Cuív as Minister for Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs.
Larry Bass, chairman SPI stated: "The appointment of Noel Dempsey to the position of Minister for Communications, Marine and Natural Resources is a positive move that the industry will view as a sign that the Government is serious about dealing with the issues that exist in this industry.
"Minister Dempsey has proven to be an innovative Minister and always seems willing to take on the views of others. We look forward to dealing with him in the future," said Mr Bass.
"Minister O'Donoghue has a great deal of experience in this role and has proved himself to be very knowledgeable and supportive when it comes to the film and television production industry.
"His foresight in recognising the potential of Ireland's film and television production sector also played a large part in the recent successes we have enjoyed."
"We were also glad to see Minister Eamon Ó Cuív retained in the Department of Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs. Our members who produce Irish language programming have found him to be progressive on Irish television programming issues."
