Katie Holmes and fiance Chris Klein are laughing off reports they've split, insisting a recent overheard bust-up was over a house they were planning to buy, not their romance.

Klein was overheard saying: "I need space" while the couple dined at New York restaurant Maggiano's earlier this month, prompting gossips to declare their romance was over.
