Depardieu attacked by Brando-supporting critics

French actor Gerard Depardieu became the victim of scathing critics when they wrongly deemed his new movie Last Tango in Moscow a remake of late star Marlon Brandon's similarly-titled erotic classic.

The Green Card star was confused by the fierce interviewing techniques of journalists, who blasted him for trying to "emulate" Brando's performance in Last Tango in Paris.

And every time a movie writer attacked him, he was forced to explain his film bore no relation to Brando's 1972 picture.

He says: "All I got were interview questions about how dare I emulate Marlon Brando's genius and his film Last Tango In Paris.

"They wrote that I could only hope to equal Brando in being as fat as him! But the title was just a translation coincidence."
