Adam and Paul entertain in brave effort

The subject matter may be downbeat - a couple of druggie pals (played excellently by O’Halloran, who also wrote it, and Murphy) wander the Dublin streets looking for enough cash to get their fix - but this isn’t a bad local film.

Adam and Paul entertain in brave effort

Director: Lenny Abrahamson

Cast: Mark O’Halloran, Tom Murphy, Gary Egan, Paul Roe, Mary Murray

Cert: 15.

The subject matter may be downbeat - a couple of druggie pals (played excellently by O’Halloran, who also wrote it, and Murphy) wander the Dublin streets looking for enough cash to get their fix - but this isn’t a bad local film, particularly since two less promising central characters do have a degree of charm.

O’Halloran clearly knows his Dublin for he captures its rhythms and atmosphere to near perfection. It is, though, a film which at times isn’t sure if it’s a tragedy or a comedy.

But a brave stab at something different.
