Morissette revisits her past

Canadian rock star Alanis Morissette has taken a step back into her recording history for the video for her new single Eight Easy Steps.

The video kicks off with the current day Alanis performing Eight Easy Steps with her backing band, and then proceeds to run chronologically backwards, concluding with footage of the star appearing naked as a baby.

Video director Liz Friedlander digitally inserted the IRONIC singer into an array of pre-existing footage covering all of her career, taking in her debut single You Oughta Know and a teenage appearance on a Canadian television sho.

Friedlander explains: "The first step was to go through literally hundreds of hours of archive footage."

The next step saw Morissette spending up to 20 hours recreating facial expressions for digital insertion.

Friedlander says: "It was eerie to watch the footage of present day Alanis run side by side with the early footage. Her ability to match her old actions was uncanny."

The single is taken from Morissette's recent album So-called Chaos.
