The Haunted Mansion: Jim Evers (Eddie Murphy), a workaholic real estate agent, and his family — wife Sara (Marsha Thomason), daughter Megan (Aree Davis) and son Michael (Marc John Jefferies) — are on their way to the lake to enjoy a well-earned weekend away from it all.

On the way Jim can’t resist the temptation to stop off and visit an old mansion that’s coming up for sale.

He wants to give the old house the once-over in the hope of handling the sale but he ends up getting far more than he bargained for.

The family gets stranded in the house with a whole host of creepy ghosts for company.

The only escape is for them to unlock the dark secret haunting the mansion and break the curse.

That’s about as exciting as it gets.

Apart from some decent special effects, The Haunted Mansion is just another sad offering on the Eddie Murphy conveyor belt of mediocrity.

Comedy, PG. 1/5
