Brainbox Carol Vorderman has dealt another blow for the older woman – she has become GQ magazine’s most popular pin-up in two years.
The 43-year-old’s raunchy shots in the men’s magazine appear to have left younger rivals like Britney Spears, Gwyneth Paltrow and Elizabeth Hurley in the shade.
The issue which featured the Countdown presenter drew more readers than any other since David Beckham graced the front cover in June 2002.
The mother-of-two, whose dress sense was once slammed by TV style gurus Trinny and Susannah, caused a stir by posing for the magazine in May, in corsets and fishnet tights.
The shots of twice-married Miss Vorderman saw sales jump by 23% compared with the same edition last year, when Ms Hurley was the cover girl.
Since then, the likes of TV presenter Tess Daley and Hollywood star Kate Beckinsale, as well as Britney Spears and Gwyneth Paltrow, have all featured in the magazine.
Ten years ago Ms Vorderman, who is a member of Mensa with an IQ of 167, was a size 16 and a self-confessed frump.
But Dylan Jones, GQ magazine’s editor, said the presenter had pulled in the readers with “very little airbrushing”.
He said: “Carol wasn’t on the front cover but she pulled in the readers.
“She made it the biggest-selling issue since we had David Beckham on the front cover two years ago.”
He added: “The reason we wanted to take these pictures is that there were no pictures of Carol like it.
“It took us two years to convince her to do this but her success shows that not all men want a woman where they can put their entire hand around their waist.
“Every man in Britain fancies Carol.”
One picture showed the TV presenter in a pink Burberry mac open to reveal a corset, fishnet stockings and suspender belt, while another showed Miss Vorderman in high heels, provocatively stroking an outstretched leg.
Ms Vorderman’s manager John Miles said: “Carol is delighted.
“She is very careful about looking after herself but she doesn’t try to make out that she’s any different from anyone else.
“She knows she has to work hard to look how she does.”
