15.
Carrey, who usually annoys us with his rubber-faced antics, turns in one of his sporadic quality performances in this excellent and thoughtful drama about the power of love to overcome all that is placed in its path.
Carrey plays a man whose great love (Winslet) has had all traces of him removed from her memory. He decides to follow her example, but still retains faint memories of what they once shared; you cannot lose such a powerful emotion as true love.
Both Carrey and Winslet turn in powerful performances which enlist instantly our sympathy and support. Carrey, in particular, shows us here that when he's not mugging madly he can be a really fine dramatic actor (traits he showed in such previous films as The Truman Story).
Gondry's film is a fine example of quality treatment of an unusual subject and it is told in a quality manner.
