Growing pains for Culkin

PARTY MONSTER: Michael Alig (Macaulay Culkin) and James St James (Seth Green) were the life and soul of just about every party during New York’s club scene heyday in the late ’80s and early ’90s.

Their outrageous sense of style and an ability to cause chaos whereever they went turned a group of drugged-up rich kids into overnight celebrities.

The party ended when Alig killed smalltime drug dealer Angel Melendez (Wilson Cruz), cut up the body and dumped it in the river. Alig bragged about the killing and ended up talking his way into prison.

Once you get over the initial shock of seeing former child star Culkin in campy, outrageous drag, you realise this guy really can’t act. He single-handedly turns Party Monster into a real-life horror show.

Comedy, 18. 1/5
