Lisa Marie: I was powerless married to Jacko
Lisa Marie Presley has told an Australian talk show that she saw things she “couldn’t do anything about” during her brief marriage to Michael Jackson, who has been charged with child sex offences.
In an interview with Australian Broadcasting Corporation’s respected Enough Rope show, to be aired tomorrow night, Elvis Presley’s daughter said she felt powerless during her 1994-1996 marriage to the self-styled King of Pop, but refused to elaborate.
Excerpts of the interview were released today.
Presley said she felt “powerless in a lot of ways, in terms of … realising that I was part of a machine, and seeing things going on that I couldn’t do anything about,” she said.
“And don’t ask me what sort of things, because I’m not going to answer. But just stuff.”
Jackson has denied seven counts of performing lewd or lascivious acts on a child under 14 and two counts of administering an intoxicating agent, reportedly wine. He is free on €2.9m bail pending trial.
Asked by host Andrew Denton whether it was difficult to be in a relationship where she felt powerless, Presley said: ”It was, that’s why I left.”
Presley was in Australia promoting her singing career.
Asked how she felt about Jackson now, Presley replied: “It’s really bizarre, I feel nothing.”
