Pepsi gladiator ad to be launched in London
A new Gladiator-style ad for Pepsi featuring pop princesses Beyonce, Britney Spears and Pink will be premiered in London’s Trafalgar Square, it was announced today.
All three stars will attend the exclusive blue carpet event at the British National Gallery tomorrow night, the soft drinks company said.
Members of the rock band Queen, whose classic hit We Will Rock You accompanies the commercial, will also be at its long-awaited world premiere.
A massive screen will be erected in Trafalgar Square for the expected crowds at the event, which starts at 6pm.
The advert will be broadcast for the first time on MTV UK & Ireland in the ad break midway during the 10pm transmission of The Osbournes.
In the multi-million dollar ad, filmed in Rome, Enrique Iglesias plays an evil emperor while the girls battle it out in outfits skimpier than anything Russell Crowe would have worn.
A spokesman for the National Gallery said: “We are delighted to welcome Pepsi and its guests Britney Spears, Beyoncé and Pink to the National Gallery, London, which houses one of the greatest collections of European painting in the world.
“Once inside the gallery, Pepsi’s guests will be surrounded by some of its most beautiful and inspiring paintings such as Titian’s Bacchus and Ariadne and Veronese’s Family of Darius.”
Pepsi is famed for hiring pop stars to help promote its drinks.
The company has previously worked with Shakira, Ricky Martin, Robbie Williams, Ms Dynamite, Gareth Gates, Janet Jackson and the Spice Girls, among others.
Pepsi’s last major TV campaign starred David Beckham and his Manchester United team-mates squaring up to Real Madrid in a spoof of the classic western Gunfight at the OK Corral.
