Young cast impress in All I Want
All I Want stars Elijah Wood as 17-year-old Jones Dillon who has dropped out of college to become a writer and to find himself.
He moves into an old boarding house with a cast of colourful characters including a trigger-happy cowboy Steve (Chris Martin), a struggling actress Lisa (Mandy Moore) and a crappy photographer Jane (Franka Potente).
It doesn’t take our virginal young hero long to start bedding his new housemates — the female ones, anyway.
Through his romances, first with Lisa and then with Jane, he grows in confidence and maturity which he uses to deal with some of his problems.
One such problem is his mother Blanche (Elizabeth Perkins), whose domineering presence was a reason he left mainstream life in the first place.
With writing this good all you need are some good performances from the cast to complete the perfect package, and Wood and co don’t let the side down.
His performance as the shy Jones is spot on, while Mandy Moore and Franka Potente add to the chemistry.
Drama, 15. ***
