Steve Martin signs up for Inspector Clouseau role

Steve Martin has signed up to play Inspector Clouseau in a new Pink Panther film.

MGM's Birth of the Pink Panther is a remake of 1964's The Pink Panther which starred Peter Sellers as the French detective.

Martin's decision to take the part was confirmed by MGM executive Chris McGurk, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Ivan Reitman is both the movie's producer and director. Martin's next appearance on the big screen is the starring role of the father in Cheaper By the Dozen, set for release next month.
