Reality TV transsexual says show was 'fun'
A transsexual at the centre of a reality TV controversy spoke out tonight about her time with the male contestants and insisted: “We had a lot of fun.”
The six men who took part in Sky One show There’s Something About Miriam believed they were wooing a beautiful woman.
Only at the end of the show – and after some of them had got “intimate” - did they discover that Miriam is a pre-operative transsexual.
They have now called in the lawyers in a bid to stop the programme being broadcast and have made a number of allegations against Sky One and production company Brighter Pictures, including conspiracy to sexual assault, defamation, personal injury and breach of contract.
But tonight Miriam expressed surprise at the contestants’ claims and claimed some of them had initially suspected she was a man.
“The producers warned the boys that there would be shocks and surprises along the way and several of them wondered about me in the first few days.
“But as the series unfolded, I really thought that we got to like and know each other as friends and had a lot of fun,” she said.
“I made some good friends on the show and I hope that we can all have a happy reunion one day and watch the first show go out on Sky One together.”
The leggy South American, who gives her age as 21, denied reports that she had revealed her big secret by lifting up her skirt and giving the contestants an eyeful.
“I want to say that I would never lift my skirt up on national TV. My mother brought me up very well,” she said.
Miriam claimed the show – currently shelved by Sky One pending possible legal action by the contestants – would give a serious insight into the lives of transsexuals.
“The show will help people understand better what people like me are all about. I am what I am,” she said.
A spokesman for Schillings, the law firm representing the six contestants, denied they had ever suspected Miriam of being a man.
“They had absolutely no inkling that Miriam was anything other than a woman. The first time they had any idea was at the end of filming when the secret was revealed.
“They would hardly have had such a strong reaction to the news if they had suspected anything,” the spokesman said.
