Vampire-on-werewolf action in 'Underworld'

Italy, France; where next on our cinematic world tour this week? How about Hungary? The perfect backdrop for some blood-curdling vampire-on-werewolf action. And that’s exactly what Underworld’s all about. Kate Beckinsale plays a beautiful vampire warrior caught up in a war between her own kind and those dastardly werewolves. In the melee, the gothically glamorous Beckinsale falls for a seemingly innocent human (Speedman) caught up in the fray.

The film’s dark, rainy atmosphere together with its Matrix-esque action scenes put it a cut above the usual horror fare. But, as with many films, there’s a hell of a lot of plot twists and turns in that eponymous otherworld. Still nice to see another female lead rank up there with Lara Croft in an otherwise male-dominated genre. If contemporary fantasy fight flicks are your thing, give Underworld a go. If not; you have been warned!
