Turner to sing in Merchant Ivory film
Tina Turner is reportedly coming out of semi-retirement to sing and dance -on the back of a tiger! – in a Merchant Ivory film.
Producer Ismail Merchant tells Entertainment Weekly the film is called The Goddess and he will direct it next spring in India.
Turner will play the Goddess Kali who, says Merchant’s film-making partner James Ivory, is “one of the main Hindu goddesses, a recycler of souls, a destroyer as well as a creator who wears a necklace of men’s skulls.”
The Goddess, needless to say, is a far cry from Merchant Ivory’s latest production, the Paris-set comedy of manners, Le Divorce.
