Spider-Man star tells of drink problem

Spider-Man star Tobey Maguire has revealed he has been attending Alcoholics Anonymous meetings to help him stop drinking.

Although he does not say when he stopped drinking, the actor says he finds Alcoholics Anonymous a form of “no-frills spirituality... It’s just all practical,” he says in the August issue of Playboy magazine. “There are no holes in the progamme. It’s so, so simple. I come in, I ask for help. It has totally changed my life.”

Maguire is less forthcoming about his relationship, and breakup, with Spider-Man’s on-screen love interest Kirsten Dunst. It had been speculated that her liking for night life may not have sat well with his need to stay away from alcohol.

“That’s the boundary I won’t cross,” he says.

Maguire, now dating studio executive’s daughter Jennifer Meyer, says he wants to wait until his 30s to have children.

“Thirty-two to 36 seems like a good window,” says the actor, who turns 28 this weekend.
