A truly unusual and outstanding Russian film which will blow you away with its entire concept and construction and look and feel and emotional impact ... quick nurse, the cold towels!

Sokurov has chosen - for no apparent reason, other than to astonish - to shoot this film in one long take ... and gets away with what might have been considered merely an unnecessary gimmick. It is a film of constantly impressive delights.

It is set in the St. Petersburg Hermitage Museum, one of the wonders of the world, where we are taken on a breathtaking journey through Russian history by the building's ghosts. Everything is there, and it has been brought to us in a film of stunning invention.
