Dixie Chicks get death threats over war

A member of Texas-based band Dixie Chicks said she received death threats after the group spoke out against the Iraq war and US President George Bush.

In an interview with ABC television today, Emily Robison says: “You know, at our concerts this year we have to have metal detectors, and to me that’s just crazy. But we have to take those precautions because this thing has gotten so out of control.”

At a March 10 concert in London, lead singer Natalie Maines told the audience: “Just so you know, we’re ashamed the President of the United States is from Texas.”

Maines, Robison and other band member Martie Maguire said later they had always supported US troops even though they questioned the war.
