192 coughs on Millionaire show

The Who Wants To Be A Millionaire trial has heard 192 coughs were recorded during the one episode in question.

The court heard an army major allegedly used some of them to cheat his way to the top prize.

But one of the world's top sound experts said the vast majority came from the studio audience and could be discounted.

Dr John French told London's Southwark Crown Court that he felt 36 came from one person sitting in a row of Fastest Finger First contestants.

One of them was college lecturer Tecwen Whittock, who has admitted he may have made 19 of the coughs, which the Crown claims he used to help Charles Ingram pocket the £1m (€1.47m) cheque.

But the father of four told police when interviewed that any correlation between his coughing and the officer's right answers was just "coincidence".
