Clapton to play gig at daughter's school
Guitar legend Eric Clapton is performing a special concert at his daughter’s school tomorrow to raise cash for music and computer equipment, it was confirmed today.
Clapton’s 17-year-old daughter Ruth is a sixth-former at independent Birkdale School in Sheffield, and the rock star has agreed to help with the school hall event which will also benefit the drug rehabilitation charity in Antigua he has supported for many years.
Interest in tomorrow evening’s one-off performance was so hot among parents and pupils that names had to be drawn out of a hat for the strictly limited 790 tickets.
A spokesman for the school said: “His daughter is in the sixth form and because of that he’s agreed to help raise money for the school.”
Ruth was the result of a relationship between Clapton and her mother, Yvonne Kelly, in the 1980s.
He has two other children.
Clapton became a star in the 1960s with The Yardbirds and Cream and is perhaps best known for the classic Derek And The Dominos track Layla.
