Hirst's film poster set to become collectors' item

Art collectors are expected to shell out hundreds of pounds for posters for a new movie, designed by Britart guru Damien Hirst.

Only 1,500 prints have been made of the promotional bill for documentary Live Forever, looking at golden days of Britpop.

Even the simplest of controversial artist Hirst’s works normally fetch thousands of pounds.

The film – starring leading lights of the Nineties’ Cool Britannia music scene - such as Liam and Noel Gallagher, Jarvis Cocker and Damon Albarn receives its premiere tomorrow night in London.

Hirst’s poster is based on one of his own untitled paintings which he used as the background while working with graphic designer Jason Beard.

The poster will be displayed at cinemas showing the art house movie around the UK, but film distributor Helkon SK is not planning to paste it up on billboards.

The film is being released in London’s West End on Friday and will go across the UK on March 21.

A spokeswoman for the film said: “Film posters are highly prized by collectors anyway but this has the added attraction of being created by one of Britain’s best known artists.

“It is a work of art in itself and will be effectively turning cinema foyers into temporary galleries.”

Among the stars tipped to attend the premiere screening are the Gallagher brothers, Cocker, Hirst and singer with now defunct Britpop act Sleeper, Louise Wener.
