The aftermath of the suicide of his wife is a letter, which her grief-stricken husband (the excellent Hoffman) cannot bring himself to open.
Alas, only the acting of Hoffman is enough to make you want to see the film, which was written by brother Gordon, from his own stageplay.
It is a downbeat story, naturally, but the passages during which the husband revisits the seaside scenes of his honeymoon and his subsequent actions seem not to be part of the overall storyline.
Pity, for Hoffman - the actor - is outstanding.
1/5.
