I dare you to watch this third-rate rubbish!

Yet one more movie hero drawn - in this case like painful and rotting teeth - from the pages of a Marvel comic.

Our hero has been blinded in a horrible accident since boyhood. However, natch, he has grown into a wealthy and successful adult - who, of an evening when he has nothing better to do, turns into a superhero in a funny mask and clinging black leather suit, the better to fight the forces of evil to be found at every street corner.

This hero is played by Affleck, an actor of such stunning wooden lack of performing ability that he becomes, in that strange manner we all know, fascinating to watch. It is heartening to us lesser mortals to realise that you do not always require talent and ability and charisma to succeed.

It is a film, then, which disappoints and then some. Daredevil might well be one of Marvel's most popular characters - I would not know since I was more your Eagle reader - but here on screen he is nothing worth getting excited about.

The script is awful, the plot is awful, the directing is awful, Affleck is awful and only a throw-away performance from Dubliner Colin Farrell - in another of his films of the week - is worth watching. It's still awful, but worth watching.
