Sinéad, Elton and Spacey team up for fundraiser
Sinéad O'Connor, Elton John and Oscar-winning Kevin Spacey are among the stars lending weight to an extravaganza to raise funds for London’s Old Vic Theatre.
Flamboyant music legend Elton John is performing a series of duets in he concert for which tickets range from £250 (€378) to £1,000 (€1,500).
Sting and Elvis Costello are also among the stars lined up to perform at the show.
Courtney Love – who was cautioned after an alleged air rage incident yesterday - was due to appear at the concert.
But Spacey said it would be “her personal decision” whether she should go ahead with her performance.
Meanwhile, Spacey, 43, is reportedly becoming the next artistic director at the theatre.
A press conference has been scheduled for tonight but a theatre spokesman refused to confirm if he would be accepting the role.
The 43-year-old Hollywood star, who won oscars for The Usual Suspects and American Beauty, is already a board member of the Old Vic Theatre Trust 2000 - set up to save the theatre being turned into a bingo hall by a potential buyer.
He is expected to take up the artistic director position which currently stands empty, The Times reported.
Acts – which also include Daniel Bedingfield, US jazz star Diana Krall and Texas singer Sharleen Spiteri – will be playing some of the biggest hits of Elton John, who is chairman of the Old Vic Theatre Trust.
It is his first fund-raising task since taking up the position last year.
He and Spacey worked with Old Vic chief executive Sally Greene to create the bill.
A spokesman for the event said: “They have put together a truly spectacular evening with an extraordinary line-up of guests, who will sing some of Elton’s best-loved songs.”
