The Office form-filling scene voted funniest on TV

David Brent’s hilarious assessment of one of his employees in BBC2’s The Office was last night named the funniest scene on TV in 2002.

The cringeworthy boss’s form-filling exercise with worker Keith was thought to be even more comic than his embarrassing dance routine in the hit show, according to the votes of viewers and TV experts.

It triumphed in BBC1’s 2002 TV Moment poll, the winners of which were announced during a live show last night by Jonathan Ross.

Other highlights of the year included little Mo – played by Kacey Ainsworth - telling her tormentor husband Trevor (Alex Ferns) what she thought of him. The scene was named the best moment in soap.

The best moment in TV drama was judged to be in the BBC2 film Conspiracy where Eichmann (played by Stanley Tucci) and Heydrich (Kenneth Branagh) outlined their plans for the wholesale slaughter of the Jews.

The top scene in reality TV was Rhona Cameron’s monologue on what she thought about her jungle colleagues in ITV1’s I’m A Celebrity .... Get Me Out Of Here!

Best entertainment moment was the ribbing Angus Deayton suffered on Have I Got News For You at the hands of Paul Merton and Ian Hislop after newspaper revelations about his private life.

The best comedy moment prize was collected by Uwen Macintosh, who played office dullard Keith in The Office, which was one of the key TV hits of the past 12 months.

It has made Gervais one of the hottest names in British TV and the show is now taking off around the world.

Other winners were:

:: Best Sporting Moment – the British women’s curling team for their victory at the Winter Olympics.

:: Best Factual Moment – the Wildlife Special team for the amazing footage of a 30ft Python devouring an antelope whole, in the programme Serpent.
