So what's the link between Coronation Street and American cop show The Shield, one of Channel 5's biggest hits?
It's this: Julie Hesmonhalgh, who plays transsexual Hayley Cropper in Corrie, once shared a flat with Benito Martinez, who appears as Captain David Acevada in The Shield.
"It was a low-rent kind of place in north London, when we were studying together at drama school, in the capital," remembers Benito.
"Julie won't thank me for telling you this, but she used to make the most amazing lentil curries. They were delicious but the effects on our digestive systems was.... interesting."
