Children in Need raises €21m

Viewers of the UK's Children in Need’s charity television extravaganza have helped raise more than £13.5m (€21.2m) after an epic seven-hour broadcast.

A total of £13,501,375m (€21,117,706.65m) was raised during the live BBC1 show, which was kicked off by Pop Idol winner Will Young singing The Sweetest Feeling.

The annual Telethon, hosted by Terry Wogan and Gaby Roslin included money raised on the night and collected from sponsored events across the country.

The show, which finished at 2am this morning, saw TV presenters, pop singers and soap stars taking part in special sketches and musical performances to encourage viewers to part with their cash.

Musical treats came from Gareth Gates, Anastacia, Mariah Carey and Elton John performing alongside boyband Blue among others.
