Dallas dynasty to see a new dawn
Villainous oilman JR Ewing is set to be resurrected in a feature film version of the soap opera Dallas.
Dallas, which ran from 1978 to 1991 and starred Larry Hagman as the formidable Texan patriarch, proved an irresistible magnet for viewers.
The famous Who Shot JR? episode in 1980 received one of the highest ratings for a single programme in television history (21.6 million).
Dallas, the film, will boast an entirely new cast yet retain many of the characters who made the soap such a cherished hit.
So it seems the Ewing clan – Bobby and Pam, Jock and Miss Ellie, Sue Ellen and JR himself – will rule the roost at Southfork Ranch once again.
Regency Enterprises, a production company based at Twentieth Century Fox, has struck the deal to put Dallas on the big screen, Variety reports.
Series creator, Dave Jacobs, enthuses: “I like the idea of doing it for the 21st century, with a new cast. We’ve got a new take on it. It’s a much bigger canvas today and it belongs up on the big screen.”
