Fans go crazy over Will's album signing

Pop star Will Young launched his debut album today at a signing session in England besieged by hundreds of adoring fans.

Dozens of teenage girls were left in tears and screamed themselves hoarse as their pop idol autographed pictures and his new CD From Now On.

Many fans had queued from early this morning, and a few had even stayed overnight, to be one of 350 allowed into the signing session at HMV’s Oxford Street store in central London.

Mother and daughter Frances Norton, 41 and Julie, 13, from Forest Gate, east London, had waited since 7am to meet Will.

They were both given a kiss by the singer who shot to fame after winning the television talent shop Pop Idol.

His first single was the fastest selling debut in history, selling more than a million copies in a week and going straight into the charts at number one.

Ms Norton, a legal secretary, said: “He’s lovely. We both asked for a kiss and he didn’t mind.

“My daughter gave him a little letter she’d written along with a little white toy dog and a card and we’re hoping like mad he’ll find the time to reply.”

Her daughter was overcome with emotion and said through tears: “He’s fantastic, I love everything about him. I’ve liked him since the first time I saw him on telly.

“We’ve been to see him at the London Arena on Friday and we’re going to see him again on Wednesday at Wembley Arena.”

Will, 23, a former politics graduate from Hungerford, Berkshire, has enjoyed a meteoric rise to the top and his first year in showbusiness has seen him perform at Buckingham Palace with other stars to celebrate the Queen’s Golden Jubilee and even appear at the closing ceremony of the Commonwealth Games.

He has also reached the top of the charts with his two other single releases, Light My Fire and the Long and Winding Road, a duet with his Pop Idol rival Gareth Gates.

Katy Nye, 19, from Stevenage, Herts, had queued for more than three hours to see her heart throb and described herself as “devoted to Will.”

She said: “I’ve followed him everywhere. Whenever he appears on television I’m always there waiting outside for his autograph.

“I think he is nice, really nice. He comes across as such a great guy and seems really level headed and there are not many around who are famous who are like that.”
