Broderick set for dramatic meeting

Hollywood star Matthew Broderick plans a traumatic visit to Ireland to meet with the family of the two women he accidentally killed in a Co Fermanagh car crash in 1987.

Broderick was driving his-then girlfriend, actress Jennifer 'Dirty Dancing' Grey when he hit the car driven by 30-year-old Anna Gallagher and 63-year-old Margaret Doherty, both of whom died in the accident.

The actor was rushed to a Belfast hospital and initially charged with causing death by dangerous driving. He avoided a possible prison sentence when he was eventually found guilty of careless driving and fined.

Since then, he has been much troubled about the crash - of which he remembers little - and he hopes the coming birth of his first child, with actress wife Sarah Jessica Parker, will offer him the chance of a closure on the tragedy.

Broderick has a holiday home in County Donegal and plans the meeting in the near future.

Says Martin Doherty: "I would like to reassure him that there are no bad feelings and that we realise this accident has troubled him."
