Tara: I did send Darren a saucy message

Tara Palmer-Tomkinson admitted today that she had sent Darren Day a saucy message on ITV1’s celebrity survivor show.

Darren disclosed earlier this week that the former It girl had propositioned him for sex during their stay in the Australian jungle.

Tonight she confessed to the group that she had written him a rude message but insisted it was an “innocent” remark.

“I was flirtatious, I was tactile. There was the innocent moment when I do remember writing on my hand ‘the day I get out of here I’m going to give you one in the afternoon’. We were both laughing our heads off about it,” Tara said.

But Tara said she fell out with Darren as they filmed I’m A Celebrity ... Get Me Out Of Here! because she found him too “vulgar”.

“I looked at everything in the first few days as positive. (I thought) this guy is such good fun to be with,” she said.

“Then he started to get vulgar and I took offence to it. And then there was the burping and farting. Every time he did that I found it such a turn-off.”

Tara admitted she often provoked rows with Darren for the fun of it “because it gets my endorphins going”.

But she also accused him of “lies and dishonesty” and playing to the cameras.

“There was so much covering up and game playing. If I went up and tried to apologise he would say that he had one thing to tell me, and the sound pack came off and he’d say ‘I can’t say it now’,” she said.

Darren, evicted from the camp on Wednesday night, admitted he felt guilty about disclosing the contents of Tara’s saucy notes.

“I’m saddened by the loss of friendship. I regret telling the others about the letters ... I wish with all of my heart that I hadn’t but I think I behaved irrationally due to the situation we were all in,” he said.

Darren said his six-year friendship with Tara was now over.

“There were six people there that I didn’t know that now I would say I will see again and are my friends. But the one person that I went in with as an ally - our friendship has completely dissolved,” he said.

“It got to the point of no going back for me and Tara – too much was said. I can’t pretend that I’m not upset about it. There were times that I thought, all of the people in there, why are you doing this to me?”

Meanwhile comedian Rhona Cameron brought up a subject which has been baffling viewers – Darren’s Cockney accent.

The former West End star, originally from Colchester in Essex, had little trace of an accent when he presented ITV show You Bet at the height of his fame in the 1990s.

But on the survivor show he has insisted on talking in an East End accent which would do Phil Mitchell proud – as well as telling former boxer Nigel Benn that he was “from the street”.

Rhona asked Tara: “Did sometimes his accent get stronger? I did notice that he did up the ‘babe’ and ‘honey’ and ‘my love’.”

“I think it totally got stronger. It was the one thing I really noticed,” Tara said. “He picked it up off Nigel.”

With Darren out of the way, Tara enjoyed her happiest day so far and amused herself by dressing up DJ Tony Blackburn in her mink to look like Puff Daddy.

She won the group supplies of wine, coffee, sugar and towels when she correctly answered the question that accompanied today’s challenge.

And she hinted that she had more than a little personal knowledge of Hollywood actor Nicolas Cage.

The question asked was where he had recently married Lisa Marie Presley and Tara said she was certain it was Hawaii.

“It is his favourite place in the world. I know it is but I do not want to say why it is, I just know it is,” she said mysteriously.

Model Nell McAndrew successfully completed today’s Bushtucker Trial which involved her sitting on a bucking bronco and collecting stars suspended above her head.

She returned to the group triumphant and amazed viewers by coming out with several sentences in a row as she recounted her experiences.
