Hendrix guitar to break sale records
The legendary guitar which Jimi Hendrix famously set alight on stage is going under the hammer.
The Fender Stratocaster is expected to fetch up to £400,000 (€625,120) – making it the most expensive guitar ever sold.
During its illustrious history, the instrument has belonged to two rock icons.
After Hendrix burned it on stage at the 1968 Miami Pop Festival, he gave it to fellow star Frank Zappa.
Zappa lovingly restored it and played it on his 1976 Zoot Allures album before handing it down to his son Dweezil.
Now Dweezil is putting the guitar up for sale at London auctioneers Cooper Owen next month.
“This guitar is obviously very historic because it was played by two of the greatest guitarists who have ever lived.
“Just by looking at the guitar you can sense the history behind the music. It’s very inspiring,” he said.
Zappa was recently offered $500,000 (€511,660) at auction in Las Vegas but turned it down because he believes it is worth more.
His father died of cancer in 1993, 23 years after Hendrix choked to death on his own vomit.
