Matrix to get UK terrestrial TV premiere

The Matrix is to get its first showing on UK terrestrial TV this autumn.

Channel 5 will also screen Steven Spielberg's Saving Private Ryan, and the Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman film Eyes Wide Shut.

It will also show the UK terrestrial premiere of You've Got Mail with Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan.

The 1999 version of Godzilla and Robert Redford's romantic drama The Horse Whisperer are also part of Channel 5's autumn film line-up.

The channel will also screen Full Metal Jacket, Sleepless In Seattle, Maverick, Silence Of The Lambs and the Abyss this year.

Jeff Ford, Channel 5's director of acquisitions, said: "This is without doubt the strongest movie schedule of any terrestrial broadcaster this autumn."

Channel 5 recently announced a deal with Columbia TriStar International Television which will see it screen Spider-Man, Black Hawk Down and Men In Black 2 in the future.
