Angelina rejects her father's 'olive branch'

Angelina Jolie says it's not healthy for her to be around her father.

Her father, actor Jon Voight, had wept on American TV to tell how he had failed to provide support for Jolie's "serious mental problems".

But she says she has to keep away from him out of a responsibility for her own child.

She said in a statement: "I don't want to make public the reasons for my bad relationship with my father.

"After all these years, I have determined that it is not healthy for me to be around my father, especially now that I am responsible for my own child."

Voight had told US TV show Access Hollywood: "I haven't come forward and addressed the serious mental problems she has spoken about so candidly to the press over the years, but I've tried behind the scenes in every way."

He said he was not surprised that she had recently split from her second husband, Billy Bob Thornton.

He said: "I never had the feeling that they were going to make it, because of both of their serious problems - so I never really held out any hope."

Voight also said he is worried about Jolie's one-year-old adopted son, Maddox, whom he has not even met.

Jolie is due to start shooting the sequel to Tomb Raider in Greece later this month.
