Viewers may take Jade under their wing, says psychologist

Big Brother's resident psychologist says Jade is now in with a good chance of winning the prize.

Dr Sandra Scott thinks the public may take the dental nurse under their wing, if the other housemates continue to pick on her.

She says Kate's emotional detachment could result in her downfall, while Jonny has been false, and Alex's constant whingeing has lost him fans.

"When the media also turned on Jade, and she was vilified in much of the press, this introduced another factor - the audience's sense of fair play," Dr Scott says.

"Right or wrong, it was not fair for Jade to be punished inside and outside the House. Whatever her crimes, the fact that everybody ganged up on Jade looked like bullying.

"If Kate, Alex and Jonny continue to pick on Jade, she may be able to turn her weakness back into a strength and have the public look after her when it really matters.

On Alex she says: "Alex's strength has been his determination to be himself, without pretence, and be open about his views. This often made him very humorous, which the viewers appreciated.

"But Alex's constant whingeing and complaining and his recent threat to leave. We may decide somebody so unwilling to play the game does not deserve to win it."

She goes on to say that part of Kate's ability to survive comes from her relative emotional detachment, but this also leads to her weakness.

"Kate almost overcompensates for her lack of real emotional attachment with excessive visual displays of friendship that are generally unconvincing," she says. "Kate's emotional distance may lead the public to feel no real loyalty to her."

And on Jonny she says: "Lately, Jonny has got so caught up in the game that he forgot to hide this from us. He admitted to Kate that he had hidden the parts of himself that he felt would make him unpopular. That could lead people to wonder whether the Jonny they have grown to like really exists. Would we like the real him?"
