Johnny Vaughan 'approached for political programme'

Johnny Vaughan has emerged as a surprise candidate to present one of the BBC's new-look political programmes.

He is understood to have been informally approached about a new BBC2 slot on Saturday mornings, by ex-Newsnight editor Sian Kevill.

Kevill, who is reviewing the BBC's political output, believes Vaughan has the credibility to win over the next generation of voters and TV viewers.

Rod Liddle, editor of BBC Radio 4's Today programme and a Guardian columnist, is also being considered as part of a "dream team" with late night Radio 5 Live presenter Fi Glover.

Vaughan is currently on holiday in Los Angeles and was unable to comment, reports Media Guardian.
